Google has added the new “Photos” tab to local knowledge panels in mobile search.
The new tab has a number of subtabs which for restaurants typically include photos from the menu, atmosphere, by owner, and 360 views when they are available. While the subtabs vary depending on the type of business, the new tab seems to have been added to all listings across the board.
Business photos have been important for local listings for a long time, and Google has always recommended uploading fresh pictures in Google My Businesses, and this change gives photos even more visibility.
This is change is happening just a couple of weeks after the “About” tab’s rollout, and is another step by Google in making local knowledge panels the “new mobile website” as Mike Blumenthal put it in his recent post.
Update: It looks like this has only rolled out for Android devices.
