Google seems to be rolling out the new “About” tab to local knowledge panels.
Google began testing the new tab last month.
Under the About tab users can find a business description, highlight icons, and attributes.
While I initially assumed that the About tab would feature descriptions provided by businesses in GMB as this option was added at about the same time as the test started, this does not seem to be the case yet. Barbara Oliver Jewelry has a description which is not displayed under the tab. So, for now, only descriptions written by Google are featured.
Attributes are often neglected by businesses, but they are gaining a lot more visibility now because of this change.
Not all business categories have the new tab. Among categories that do not seem to have it are SEOs, developers, marketing agencies, and more.
Google first rolled out tabbed local panel interface in June 2017, with only Overview and Reviews tabs available at the time. Since then Google has added a number of different tabs to local knowledge panels: Posts; Menu (for restaurants); and Rates (for hotels). Google has also added tabs to local packs of many national brands.
