For quite some time user interface for Google’s hotel search was very inconsistent between mobile and desktop devices. They didn’t look similar (arguably, the UI on mobile was slicker) and didn’t offer the same features. A recent example of this inconsistency is the hotel location score that was rolled out in August to mobile search and was not made available on desktop. This seems to be changing now. Google has quietly rolled a new UI for hotel search to desktop devices which is very similar to what we’ve used to seeing on mobile phones:
I believe everyone can see this UI now, so if you Google a generic hotel search, and click on any listing in 3-pack you should be able to replicate and see the new UI for yourself.
While the interface across devices is a lot more consistent, I still haven’t been able to trigger hotel price insights on my PC. Perhaps it will be coming to desktop at a later point.
Despite the fact that Google has been testing similarly designed hotel 3 pack since July of this year, the 3 pack was not yet updated. But I think we can expect it to also change in the near future.
Overall, Google has always pushed for UX consistency across different devices with been fully consistent themselves. This is a step in the right direction.
